The Brookland Homes Pump Track

Face paint, hot dogs, BMX demonstrations, and excited kids waiting to try out the new track. That was the scene at the grand opening of the Brookland Homes pump track at 113 Pratt Drive on August 19th. Read on to learn more about this exciting addition to Loyalist Township.

What Is a Pump Track?

A pump track essentially is a looped course of bumps (rollers) and banked turns (berms) built in such a way that riders can generate momentum using up and down movements (pumping) rather than using their pedals or pushing off the ground. BMX bikes were made for tracks like this, but it also works with other bicycles, scooters, and skateboards. No matter what you choose to ride, once you get rolling you won’t need anything besides the rhythm of your pumping to make your way around the track. The best part is that anyone can enjoy a ride on the track from children all the way up to seasoned riders.

The Big Reveal

We wanted to make sure our grand opening captured the spirit of what we are hoping to achieve with the pump track itself. That being a fun time with your friends and neighbours, where you can all come together and enjoy yourself regardless of age. That’s why instead of simple ribbon cutting and speeches our grand opening featured face painting, lawn games, free hot dogs, and a live demonstration courtesy of BMXTraining613. This helped us kick off what promises to be an exciting addition to the community with a similarly fun and exciting bang.

Why Did Brookland Homes Build A Track For Bikes?

With over fifty years of building experience across Eastern Ontario, we have learned one thing above anything else: a street full of beautiful houses isn’t what makes it a community. Neighbours from children to adults need to meet and build friendships with each other and a great way to help foster that is through providing a reason for kids and families to get out and enjoy themselves alongside each other. This is where something like the pump track comes in. It helps to bring people who may have never met together, giving them the chance to connect with those living nearby. Brookland Homes believes in this community philosophy so much that our President John Armitage and his wife Janice generously donated to fully fund the construction of the track. In addition to the track, Brookland also sponsors the nearby Brookland Homes arena giving residents an opportunity to connect and enjoy fun physical activity year-round. Our hope is that the Brookland Homes Pump Track can join the Brookland Homes Arena in becoming a hub for the residents to spend time, get active, and help bring the community closer together.
